Logos 9 - Review

As the sole pastor of a small, but growing congregation, I find that my time is at a premium. As I look at my weekly calendar, I find myself wishing I could see the Joshua 10:13 miracle, where the sun stood still, taking place nearly every day! Due to the tight time restraints that I have upon me, I have found that Logos has been a tremendous blessing in enabling me to get more done, but in less time.

I am committed to carefully studying and preaching God’s Word – Logos 9 is helping me do just that.

When I was asked to review the new Logos 9, I initially thought that there would be very little difference to the previous release, but over the past couple of weeks I have been amazed at the new depths of studying I am achieving with this latest update. Since I have only had two weeks to review Logos 9 my review will be limited. There is so much functionality that one would need considerable time to plumb the depths of this incredible resource.

There are, however, two aspects I would briefly like to mention.

 The New Factbook

With Logos 8, I rarely used the factbook, however, with Logos 9 this feature has fast become one of my favourite tools. The ease at which I am able to look up details surrounding People, Places, Concepts and more (including Greek and Hebrew lemmas, word senses, manuscripts, authors, songs etc.) has made this tool invaluable. Time is saved in sermon preparation, but this saving is done without sacrificing accuracy. Instead of spending ages finding the right book, then looking up the correct page and taking notes, the new Logos 9 Factbook gathers it all into one place at the touch of a button.

 Counselling Guide

Churches are made up of broken people who are daily relying upon God’s grace. As such, it probably comes as no surprise to discover that people in churches have many struggles and difficulties (I know I do!). As a pastor, I am often called upon to speak God’s Word into different situations, and at times this can be extremely challenging. One moment I can be dealing with someone suffering with anxiety, then the next moment I can be grieving with someone who has suffered a bereavement. The challenges of pastoral ministry mean I need to know how to address each individual situation, with the Logos 9 Counselling Guide this will make my work easier.

By entering the different issue that is being faced, Logos 9 will compile different resources and Scripture references which will help me better minister to the people the Lord has called me to shepherd.

I suspect this resource on Logos 9 will become a well-used resource.

 Summary

Overall, I think Logos 9 will be a blessing to many who rely on Bible software to complete their weekly ministry duties. I am personally very thankful for the resources that Logos has produced, and I look forward to better serving Christ and His Church.
