Gospel in the Rain – Southampton Evangelism
It was absolutely pouring down with rain! For nearly forty minutes we sheltered under a market stall waiting for a break in the weather. When it eventually came, we were drenched, but we now had opportunity to preach the good news.
Mike Mellor started off the preaching by speaking on the topic of “Heaven?” As he challenged people by reminding them, they had eternity written on their hearts, a young couple stopped to engage. They seemed very open and gladly received copies of John’s Gospel.
When Mike finished, I preached on “The Good Person Test?” Despite the grey and windy conditions, a few people stopped to listen. I would have loved engagement, but people stood quietly considering the message. A couple of those who paused then took copies of the Bible.
One young man who listened to me preach asked if he could have a Bible. Then, he went to listen to Ben preach on the differences between Halloween and Christmas (darkness and light). At the end of Ben’s message, Mike spoke to the young man. He seems to be converted and is looking for a church. We gladly referred him to an evangelical church near where he lives.
The weather made things a little bit challenging, especially when it came to handing out tracts; but the literature kept being given away, and conversations took place. The gospel was spreading in the rain!
Next up to preach was Jeremy who spoke on “Warning: Six Deadly Lies.” Followed by Richard, who spoke on “The Power of Words.” Both did a splendid job in explaining the good news, and why all people need to turn and trust in Jesus.
As we finished up the outreach, it began to rain again. Still, we rejoice at how many heard the gospel today. This was my last outreach in Southampton until December, as on Monday, I head to the USA to preach at an evangelistic rally in Arkansas, then take a family holiday. However, the team will still be going out in Southampton. Please pray for them, and for all who heard the good news of Jesus.
