“I Needed to Hear That!” – Salisbury Evangelism
Traffic had made me several minutes late for the Salisbury outreach, but eventually I made it. As we walked into the city centre, I was greeted by the sound of a busker playing music loudly. She was good, but still, her pleasant singing would make the outreach a challenge. Nevertheless, we set up in our usual location and began to engage people with the good news.
The preaching commenced with Paul speaking on “Ultimate Questions.” As he proclaimed the gospel, a couple of people stopped to listen, including a man who went over to the literature table and took several items.
After Paul finished preaching, we handed out tracts for a few minutes before I preached on “The Origins of Evil.” A few people paused, including a new Christian who said he was greatly encouraged. Two ladies who listened both received copies of John’s Gospel when it was offered, with one of them shaking my hand and saying, “I needed to hear that!”
While I was preaching, two Mormon missionaries also stopped and spoke with a team member. To my surprise, they both took tracts.
Next to preach was Tony, who spoke on Jeremiah 17:9. Then Paul preached again, this time on “The Religion of Atheism.” This talk generated some discussion afterwards. One lady took material and chatted to Paul, but then there was a young man who wanted to make a scene.
The young man stood next to the board and began to speak loudly, as if he were preaching. He called out, “Would you be happy if some other religion or view was preached in the streets?” Before he could say any more, I called out, “Yes! And I’d fight for their freedom to do it!” This took the wind out of the young man’s sails. He quietened down and spoke with me. We had a good conversation, with him sharing his agnostic views. At the end of our chat, he took a copy of “Ultimate Questions,” saying he'd investigate what we were saying further.
The Lord was kind to the people of Salisbury today in allowing His truth to spread once again. Please pray for all those who heard of Jesus.
