A Distracted Outreach – Manchester Evangelism
As I drove into the city of Manchester today, I received a call from my wife with the sad news that my older brother back home in Australia is in hospital, currently fighting for his life. Thankfully, my brother knows Jesus, so his future is secure, but thoughts of family filled my mind and distracted me from today’s outreach. Yet, despite the distraction, the gospel still spread.
As with yesterday’s report, I can only share my own stories; so much happened across the team, with many hearing the good news.
I was supposed to be the first preacher of the day, but with all that had happened, I was moved down the list. When it did come time for me to preach, I spoke on “How Can You Be Sure You’ll Go to Heaven?” I found the topic quite difficult, given how close my brother is to Heaven, but people still needed to hear the good news. A few paused to listen, with team members speaking to them afterwards.
As the outreach progressed, I found it hard to engage in conversation, but towards the end of the day I had a few meaningful chats. One was with a Muslim student who admitted he was not certain he would go to Paradise. I shared that I have complete assurance that when I die, I will go to Heaven. This seemed to unsettle him, so he asked me why I was so sure. As I explained the good news, his friend, from an Orthodox background, also listened in. When I had finished sharing, the Muslim man accepted a Gospel of John, and both men took a book on how to be right with God.
Another conversation I had was with a lady who is leaving Islam; she was very fearful, as converting is dangerous for her. She took several gospel booklets and listened attentively to the good news about Jesus.
Although I was distracted, the gospel continued to spread. Please pray for all those who heard the message, and also for my brother.
