Desperate to Know God – Southampton Evangelism
Today’s outreach was a little shorter than usual, as God, in His sovereignty, decided to send the rain. However, before the wet weather arrived, we were able to have quite a number of conversations, with many hearing the good news of Jesus.
The literature table was busy as usual. Early in the outreach, I was able to speak with a couple from East Timor. Due to the proximity of Timor to Australia, we were able to connect on a friendly level. They shared that they came from a Roman Catholic background but were interested in learning the Bible. After our conversation, they took a copy of the New Testament and some gospel booklets.
Ben was the first preacher for the day, and his message was titled “What People Often Say to Us.” A few people gathered to listen, including a Chinese man who later had a long conversation with a Chinese Christian. He also received gospel material in his own language.
Next up was Jeremy, who spoke on “Warning: Six Deadly Lies.” He did a great job of bringing the gospel to the people with humour and a down-to-earth approach. So many preachers often speak over the heads of their listeners, but this certainly could not be said of Jeremy.
When it came time for me to preach, I spoke on “God Is Love.” A teenager engaged for a little while, so I made sure he heard the gospel. A few more people gathered to listen, and at the end, three people received copies of John’s Gospel. A Romanian Christian who listened was touched by the message and even bought me a cup of coffee!
One lady who listened then spoke with a female team member after the preaching. They had a long conversation, during which the non-Christian indicated that she is desperate to know who God is. She listened to the gospel again and then gave her contact details to the team member, saying she wants to learn more. They will be meeting up soon to begin studying John’s Gospel using The Word One-to-One.
By this time, the dark clouds were beginning to gather, though it was still dry — but that soon changed as Mike began to preach. As Mike proclaimed the gospel, the heavens opened and the rain set in. Even so, a few people engaged in conversation and took tracts.
Due to the weather, we decided to finish the outreach early. We give thanks for all the Lord has done today, and we ask that you join us in praying for all those who heard the good news.
