A Murdered Son – Guildford Evangelism
Before heading to Guildford for the open-air outreach, I had a more local evangelistic meeting – so local that it took place in my own living room. Two members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses stopped by to talk, so for 80 minutes we covered the biblical gospel and the truth of who Jesus is. Repeatedly, they heard the good news and were exhorted to trust in the Jesus of the Bible. It was a friendly chat, and I pray the seed sown will take root.
As I waved the JWs off, I had to quickly get in my car for the one-hour drive to Guildford. Upon arrival, we were met with windy, grey, and wet weather. Thankfully, we were able to set up the outreach outside a closed shopfront.
Tony commenced the preaching by speaking on “Four Big Questions.” The weather made it miserable, and people were not inclined to stop. Still, people heard snippets of the gospel.
I preached next on “The Three S’s.” As I spoke, an old man came close to me and began to curse God. I informed him that it would not be long before he faced God, so he would do well to consider Jesus. The man’s hostility provided a perfect illustration of our sinful rebellion.
As I preached, a lady paused to listen. As she went to move on her way, she spoke with one of our team members, Marian. The lady was very keen to talk, even though she was a Roman Catholic. Marian ended up going for coffee with her so they could continue the gospel conversation. The lady had recently gone through a great tragedy; a couple of months ago, her fifteen-year-old son was stabbed to death in Guildford. The grief this lady feels is unimaginable, but through it all she could see her need for God. She has asked to meet again and is interested in attending a local evangelical church.
During this time, Julian had a conversation with an agnostic man who took a tract from me and pretended not to listen to Tony preaching. They spoke for quite some time.
It was then time for Tony to preach again; this time he spoke on “Warning: Six Deadly Lies.” As he proclaimed the gospel, a couple of people stopped to listen and engage. Both took tracts.
As the weather worsened, I preached once more before finishing the outreach. There was very little interaction, though a couple of Christians stopped to say they were encouraged.
It was not the easiest day, yet the gospel still spread. Please pray for all those who heard the truth in Guildford.
