A Quieter Day in Portsmouth

It was a quieter day in Portsmouth; still, all those the Lord ordained to hear the message of eternal life heard it. Upon arrival in the city, we noticed that one of the regular buskers (who isn’t a fan of us) had set up in our normal preaching location. This caused us to move further along the street, but thankfully there was an open space for us to set up the outreach board and literature table.

I was the first to preach today. Since we are rapidly approaching Easter, I spoke on the “Three S’s” (sin, substitution, salvation). A few people listened, with four receiving copies of John’s Gospel when offered. One lady also asked if she could have a children’s booklet for her daughter. It is always encouraging when parents want to train their children in biblical truth.

After I had finished preaching, Jim began to speak. He preached well, with the gospel being clearly and joyfully proclaimed. It is always nice to hear the good news proclaimed with a voice of praise and thankfulness.

When Jim finished, we spent time handing out tracts and speaking with people about the gospel. A few people made their way over to the literature table, where several conversations then took place. Something we noticed today was the increase in Roman Catholics asking questions and considering the gospel. There was also an international element, with people from different cultures and nations stopping to browse the gospel material.

Before the outreach finished, I preached once more; this time I spoke on “The Big Picture of Easter.” There was little engagement, but still a number of people heard snippets of the gospel.

Overall, it was a quieter day, yet we rejoice that God’s truth went forth. We never know where the seed will land, but we trust the Lord will use our efforts for His glory.
