Yorkshire Outreach – Day 1: Leeds
The Open-Air Mission Yorkshire team event started today. It was great to join with Christians from around the country to take the good news to the city of Leeds.
So much happened today, with many people hearing the gospel. I can’t detail all the stories from others, so in this report I will focus on a few of the things I was directly involved in.
I was the first preacher of the day. Normally, we would use the full-size open-air board, but due to restrictions from the local council, we had to use a smaller board to fit within their guidelines. This made things a little more challenging, but we were still able to use visuals to help reinforce the gospel message. My open-air talk was on ‘The Road to Heaven’. In this message, I use several verses to explain sin, hell, and the gospel. It is a simple, though I hope clear, message.
Later in the day, I had a wonderful conversation with two young men who had been thinking deeply. Both said they held to a nihilistic view of life and death. We explored the philosophy behind this position for a time, with both saying, “You’re really making us think!” In the end, they admitted the reason they held to this view was because, if they admitted God is there, then they would also need to admit they are accountable to Him.
I pointed out that denying God’s existence doesn’t make Him go away—they agreed. We then had a gospel conversation, with both acknowledging they needed to think further about Jesus. They each took a copy of John’s Gospel, saying they would read it.
It was a good start to the team event. Please pray for all those who have heard, and who will hear.
