Yorkshire Outreach – Day 3: Leeds

We were back in Leeds for day three of The Open-Air Mission Yorkshire outreach. Today, we set up in a different area from Tuesday, which wasn’t as busy, but still provided opportunities for the gospel.

As with the other days, I can only write about some of the encounters I was involved in; the stories from the other team members will no doubt be reported by OAM at a later date.

The first encouraging encounter I had today came while one of the team members was preaching. Over at the literature table, a gentleman had stopped and was browsing the material. I walked over, introduced myself, and began to chat.

As we spoke, the man asked if we had a copy of the Bible with both the Old and New Testaments. He then went on to say that the reason he wanted both was because he is a Jewish rabbi who wants to understand what Christians believe.

I gave the rabbi a copy of the Bible. As he took it, he said his plan was to read through the Old Testament, then go straight into the New Testament, as he wants to see how it all fits together. He didn’t want to speak too much, but before he left, he pronounced the Aaronic blessing over me in Hebrew, and I told him we would be praying that he would come to discover the true Messiah.

Another encouragement came during the open-air. As I preached on the separation between God and humanity, a few people listened and a couple of young lads engaged. They were both looking to have a bit of a laugh, but I was still able to engage them with the gospel. At the end of the message, five people received copies of John’s Gospel.

One man who listened to the message began to leave just as I finished. Since I couldn’t get to him, one of the team members engaged him in conversation. The man shared that he had been going through a rough patch and was considering giving up on believing in God. The team member was able to share about a difficult situation he had been in and spoke highly of God’s faithfulness. The man listened to the good news and took a copy of the Gospel of John.

Day three of the open-air aspect of our work has come to an end. Please pray for all those who heard the message of God’s love.
