An Easter Outreach in Salisbury

With tomorrow being Good Friday, it was easy to transition conversations to the gospel in Salisbury. Throughout the outreach, many tracts were taken, and the literature table was busier than usual. There was also an increase in one-to-one gospel conversations. Overall, it was a good day.

I started the preaching by speaking on “The Message of the Cross.” A few people paused to listen, including a couple of Christians who appreciated hearing the good news in public. One man who listened is an atheist; he has heard me previously. He told us that while he doesn’t agree, he respects us for preaching. Seeds are being sown!

Paul preached next; he spoke on “What Do You Think About the Cross?” It was a good message, which focused on the centrality of Christ’s work at Calvary. It was a helpful reminder that we need more cross-centred preaching.

When Tony preached on John 3:14–16, things became a little livelier. A man objected to the message about Christ and began to heckle. He went on to claim that he was sinless. Tony did a good job of holding the man to the gospel; he kept bringing everything back to God’s truth.

While this was happening, I spoke with a lady at the literature table. She is a new Christian and is looking for a church. I was able to refer her to a good evangelical fellowship in the area. This was the beginning of several conversations I had at the table. During this time, Colin preached, but I didn’t get to hear any of it.

The table proved to be a magnet, drawing people into conversation. One young lady shared that she believes in God but isn’t sure what He is like. Using John 1:18, I showed her that Jesus reveals to us what God is like; so, if she wants to know God, she needs to look at Jesus. She found this claim fascinating and took a copy of John’s Gospel, saying she would read more about Christ.

The final conversation I had that day was with two Christians who were encouraged by what we were doing. They are keen to get involved in evangelism, so I pointed them towards one of our workers in their local area. A key part of this work is not just reaching the lost, but also encouraging believers to make much of Jesus.

Due to all the conversations, the outreach went longer than planned. Please pray for all those who heard the good news.
