A Slower Day in Salisbury
The warm weather may have returned to England! It was quite nice out on the streets today, though it was a slower day when it came to evangelism.
There were only two of us preaching today, but we did have a good team of workers who were kept busy handing out tracts and seeking to engage people with the gospel.
After everything was set up, I preached first. My message was on, “Death: Is It the End?”
One man, upon hearing the biblical challenge, called out that he had learnt how to overcome death and therefore would never die. So I asked him, “How?” He looked puzzled, then said, “I don’t know!” With that, he walked away.
An older lady, who looked like a sweet grandma, quickly revealed by her words that she was a monster of iniquity. She cursed and boldly declared that she didn’t believe the Bible or the gospel. I warned her that she would give an account for every word she spoke and for her rejection of Christ. She just laughed and walked away.
Since we were low on preachers, we took time between messages to hand out tracts and seek to engage people with the gospel. Conversations were hard to come by, but a number of tracts were given away.
Tony preached next. He spoke from Ephesians 2:8-9, explaining how a gift cannot be earned, because a free gift is a free gift. He then stressed that Christ offers this gift to sinful humanity.
After more time distributing tracts, I decided to preach once more. This time I preached on, “Are You Good Enough for Heaven?”
As I preached, I noticed a man with wild, long grey hair and a massive flowing beard stop to listen. I could see him becoming tense, so I knew something was about to happen.
Then, as I spoke about God requiring truth, the man stormed up to me. He stopped an arm’s length away and began to rant and rave about gender and lies. He didn’t like that I affirmed two genders or that I spoke about lying being a sin.
As he yelled, I could smell that his breath was so laden with alcohol that, if he had lit a cigarette, he may have ignited!
His ranting did stop a few people, some of whom then listened to the good news. One of those who listened accepted the offer of a copy of John’s Gospel.
Overall, it was a slower day in Salisbury, but we rejoice that some still got to hear about Jesus.
Please pray that the Lord will save many.
