“I Don’t Need the Bible!” – Reading Evangelism
It was a damp old day. Throughout the morning it rained, and conditions during the outreach were far from ideal. Thankfully, we were able to set up in a location that provided some of the team members with shelter so they could hand out tracts and witness.
Where we set up also seemed to be a gathering spot for other religions. In front of us were the Hare Krishnas, dressed in orange and playing their music. Behind them were the Jehovah’s Witnesses. It was going to be a unique day! As the preaching took place, several of us made mention of the different groups and then pointed all to Jesus.
Bill commenced the preaching by speaking on "What Is God Like?" This was ideal, as right in front of us were two groups spreading lies about God. The truth was proclaimed, and people were urged to trust in Jesus.
Next, it was my turn to preach. I spoke on "The Way to Heaven". As I preached, a few people paused to listen, including an 85-year-old retired police officer. Previously, she had been very friendly towards us. Today, she was mad!
What set her off? Well, as I preached about the way to Heaven, I mentioned how good works will not get anyone to Heaven. At this, the lady fired up. She yelled out, "I've been a Roman Catholic for 85 years. I don't need the Bible telling me what to do!" I tried to challenge her, but she stormed away. Sadly, this lady was trusting in her own deeds and not the finished work of Christ. Our prayer is that the Lord saves her.
One man who listened to the whole message received a copy of John's Gospel at the end. He thanked us for the message and said he would be reading the Scriptures later.
While this was taking place, Jamie and Rich found themselves in a gospel conversation with one of the Hare Krishnas. Please pray that he would come to see the truth!
Next up, Richard preached on "Why Did God Send His Son?", followed by Jamie, who spoke on "Why Should You Bother with Jesus?" The final preacher of the day was Rich, who built on Jamie's message, stressing that Jesus is wonderful and unique. A Muslim man who listened to him preach had a long conversation with Rich afterwards.
Even in the damp, the gospel spread. Please pray that the Lord saves all those who heard the good news.
