Different Ages Listen to the Good News in Newbury
We were back up in Newbury today for our monthly outreach. A few of our regular team members were away, but we still managed to field a good-sized team. As the rain threatened to tumble down, we set up and hoped for the dark clouds to pass. They did! Before too long, it was sunny and hot, and the town centre was busy.
Over at the literature table, two Christians, including a local pastor, stopped. They were encouraged by the outreach. Our desire as a ministry isn’t just to reach the lost, but also to encourage fellow believers in their evangelistic efforts.
From the outset, the team was busy handing out tracts and chatting with people. It continued like this throughout the day.
I started off the preaching by speaking on “Steps to Peace with God”. It was encouraging to see a few people listen and then have five people walk forward to receive a copy of John’s Gospel at the end of the message. Young people, middle-aged people, and the elderly all gladly received the Scripture.
As Bill prepared to preach, a busker with a big amplifier decided to set up near us. Bill started to preach on John 3:16, and I went to talk with the busker. The conversation was polite, and he agreed to move. He told us we were very nice and then moved up the street. However, some locals decided to be outraged on his behalf. They weren’t happy that the busker had moved, so they came down to rant at Bill, telling him how unkind he was. Bill responded to them with love and grace.
When it was next time for me to preach, I spoke on “Are You Truly Living?” A couple of people listened, and there were some conversations with team members afterwards. Then, Bill preached the final message of the day on “Four Things You Can’t Keep”. It was a good ending to the outreach.
Please pray for all those who heard the good news.
