Manchester Outreach – Day 3

Each day in evangelism is very different. Yesterday, I didn’t get to preach, but today I was the first preacher. Throughout the day, we had numerous men proclaiming the gospel, and the team was kept busy speaking with many people. As with other team event reports, I will only focus on some of what I was directly involved in.

As mentioned already, I was the first preacher for the day. I decided it would be best to preach on “The Message of the Cross”. As I spoke, there were a few people who paused to listen, and at the end, four people received copies of John’s Gospel. I was encouraged by this, as I want more people to take up the Word of God! 

I also managed to have several gospel conversations. The first was with two young adult males, both of whom came from a non-religious background. What is interesting is that, like many other young men, they have seen the folly of not believing in God, so they are starting to think and ask questions. I was able to engage them with some basic apologetics, as well as the gospel. They received a couple of booklets and said they would read them. Seeing young men show interest in Christianity is becoming more common. Perhaps it is a sign the Lord is at work! 

I had another conversation later in the day with a young Roman Catholic man. He told me he hoped he’d go to Heaven, as he hadn’t sinned and didn’t think he was guilty of any wrongdoing. This self-righteous attitude is quite common, so, using the Ten Commandments, we looked at God’s standard of goodness.

As we went through the Law, the man saw his guilt. He realised his sin and asked, “So, how can I get to Heaven?” He was now ready to hear the wonderful news of God’s grace. I explained to him how Jesus kept the Law perfectly and never sinned. Then I spoke about how Jesus became our sin payment on the cross, and how, through His death and resurrection, we can be forgiven. As I explained all of this, the man kept saying, “Whoa! That is deep and heavy. Amazing!” At the end of our conversation, he took an in-depth gospel tract and gave me a fist bump. Please pray the Lord would lead him out of dead religion and to Christ. 

Much more happened, but these are a few of the highlights. Please keep praying, as we have two days left in Manchester.
