Windy and Cold in Southampton!
A storm front rolled in towards us today during the outreach. With wind gusts of over 50mph, it was thought best not to set up the open-air board or literature table. The wind was so strong that people were losing hats and nearly being blown over. Yet, despite all the wind, there were still opportunities to witness.
For the first hour of the outreach, I was out by myself. Being alone on an outreach is always more challenging, but the Lord Jesus promises to be with us (Matthew 28:20), so I knew I wasn’t ultimately on my own.
Since I was by myself without an open-air board, I decided to try something different. I pulled out my recording equipment and went to see if I could find someone who’d be willing to be interviewed on camera. This is something I want to do more of, as I believe online videos can help train Christians in how to share the Gospel and also reach the lost.
The first man I approached was very keen to be interviewed. He was a university student and a Roman Catholic from Kenya. He was very friendly, and soon we were discussing what he believed.
The man told me he thought he’d go to Purgatory when he died, as he wasn’t bad enough for Hell. Using the Ten Commandments, I revealed God’s standard of goodness, and the man saw his sin and need for a rescuer. The Good News was explained to him, and he gladly received a copy of John’s Gospel. Eventually, once I’ve cleaned up the interview footage, I’ll see about posting it online.
After this, I focused on handing out tracts. A few people were interested in pausing to talk, but most were content to take a leaflet and then continue on their way. Over the course of the outreach, a good number of tracts were handed out.
Just before 2pm, I was joined by Richard, who set to work handing out tracts and seeking to engage people in conversation. He was able to speak with an atheist who claimed not to believe in God. Richard challenged his position, and the man received a tract.
Richard also spoke with a man who was confused about who God is. The man heard the truth and was pointed towards Christ.
Not long after Richard arrived, Ramon joined the outreach. Now there were three of us seeking to reach the masses in Southampton.
Ramon managed to speak with a man who was intrigued by Marxism and with a group of lads who hadn’t thought about Jesus.
It wasn’t our busiest day on the streets, but still, multiple people got to hear the Good News. Please pray for all those we encountered today.
