New Location, Same Gospel! – Brighton Evangelism

Whenever I drive into Brighton, I am struck by the fact that it is a city that celebrates sin. As I headed into the city centre, I couldn’t help but notice that a show is in town celebrating and promoting ‘ladyboys’ from Thailand. It is truly heartbreaking to see image-bearers of God openly defying the Saviour. May the Lord be kind in granting repentance and faith.

After parking, I walked down to our usual preaching location. As I did, I noticed another spot which was busier and would provide more opportunities to share the good news. The team discussed this new location and decided we’d give it a try. The new location proved to be quite good for tracts and one-to-one witnessing, though preaching was harder due to road noise.

Almost from the beginning, we had conversations underway. I spoke with one man who is a professing believer but has been hurt by churches. Before he would listen to me, he interrogated me on theology. We covered everything from Roman Catholicism, the Gospel, grace, repentance, faith, and the Church. The man told me he was mostly happy with my answers. I introduced him to Skully from Grace Church and encouraged him to attend a service. He decided to stay for the rest of the outreach, only leaving when we left.

We only had two open-air sermons today, as we were kept busy with tracts and conversations. I preached first on “Steps to Peace with God.” A few people paused to listen for a few moments before moving on. They heard as much as God wanted them to hear, so we pray that the seed would fall upon good soil. Being closer to the road, it was fascinating to watch those on buses stopped at the traffic lights. I could see them all reading the Scripture quotes I was putting on the board. Who knows—maybe the Lord will rescue someone as they drive past!

Skully also preached, but before he started, two young men read aloud the Bible verse on the board. Skully went across to them and started to chat. One of the men declared himself to be an anarchist, but he respected what we were doing. Skully and the two blokes had a good chat, with contact details exchanged and interest expressed in studying the Gospel further.

Throughout the day, there were many good chats. Julian and Olly had a long conversation with a friendly Muslim man. They covered much ground, with him accepting an invitation to church and a book.

It was a busy day in Brighton, with many people being exposed to the good news. Please pray the Lord would rescue many in this city.
