“I Want to Get Serious about Christianity” – Southampton Evangelism

It was great to be back on the streets of Southampton today. Whenever I go away for evangelism, I miss my regular preaching locations, so it was a joy to return – even though I’ll be away next week in Liverpool.

The team set up, and almost from the beginning, people started to take tracts and browse the material at the literature table. The preaching began fairly quickly, with Mike Mellor proclaiming the good news first. He spoke on “Where Are They Now?” As he shared, there was good interaction – and at the end of his message, three people took copies of John’s Gospel.

Next, it was my turn to preach. I decided it would be good to speak on “The Origins of Evil.” A few people paused to listen, but there wasn’t any real interaction. At the end of the message, three people took copies of the Gospel of John.

Sitting nearby were three Romanian ladies who seemed to really enjoy the preaching; they all gladly received booklets in their own language.

Jeremy was up next. Taking John 3:16, he presented the good news. As he shared, one young man engaged, saying, “I want some good news.” Jeremy did a good job explaining the gospel. Towards the end of his message, another man began to shake his head and object; Jeremy was later able to speak with him one-to-one.

Throughout the day, team members seemed to be engaged in numerous discussions with people. It’s always great to see people stopping to talk about Jesus. I spoke with a young Roman Catholic man who said, “I want to get serious about Christianity.” After sharing with him, he took an in-depth gospel booklet.

Richard preached next, speaking on “The Power of Words.” He did well proclaiming the good news – a couple of people paid attention to what he was saying, with one man remaining to listen to the next preacher.

I was the final preacher for the day. To conclude the outreach, I spoke on “Warning: Six Deadly Lies.” I didn’t have any interactions, but I did notice a few people sitting behind me on the benches were listening. Two people received Gospels of John when offered.

It was an enjoyable couple of hours on the street – and we were also encouraged by having a Christian family from New Zealand join us. It’s always great when God’s people come together to make much of Jesus.
