Yorkshire Outreach – Day 5: York

The ancient city of York was heaving with people as we arrived; after moving through masses of humanity, we found an ideal location to preach. Throughout the day, the team was kept very busy with gospel conversations and preaching—in time, they may share their stories. But this report will focus on what I did today.

I was the second preacher of the day. My first message was on “How Can You Be Sure You’ll Go to Heaven?” I began by referencing how this city was established in AD 71, and since that time millions of people have passed through the streets wondering where they’ll spend eternity. There wasn’t too much interaction, though one man whooped and hollered when I mentioned we’d all face God one day.

Later in the outreach, as a brother preached, I witnessed something I’ve never seen in the open air before. The Lord Mayor of York appeared on the steps behind us to address the people; with him stood several men armed with pikes. After a short speech, he went marching off with his troops into the city.

Over at the literature table, I spoke with a young Ukrainian lady who was recently converted. She was hungering for biblical truth, so it was good to be able to share with her and connect her with local believers.

It was then time for me to preach again; this time I spoke on “Are You Good Enough for Heaven?” A few listened, and two young lads engaged. Both thought they were good, but not perfect. We went through the Ten Commandments, and they realised they deserved Hell. When I asked, “So, how can you get to Heaven?” they both answered, “We don’t know!” At this point, a man listening yelled out, “Trust in Trump!” I answered, “Trump isn’t making Heaven great again—the President can’t get you to Heaven!” This got a laugh, but the lads listened carefully as I explained the good news. Both took copies of John’s Gospel at the end.

Afterwards, a man who had been listening came up to introduce himself to me. He is a pastor from Texas, and it turns out he had heard me preach on Wretched Radio with Todd Friel. It was great to meet him and hear about the pastoral work he’s involved with in Dallas.

York concluded our week of open-air preaching in Yorkshire. Tomorrow, I will preach at a local church, then head home. Please pray for all those who’ve heard the good news this week.
