Day 6 – London Outreach
It’s the final day of our London outreach, and unlike the other days, today’s weather was perfect.
We started the outreach just after lunch, and it wasn’t long before people began to engage with the gospel. As with the other days, I will only share a few of the encounters I was directly involved in.
After handing out a few tracts, I was called upon to preach. I had planned to preach on “The Origins of Evil”, but I was providentially hindered, as I couldn’t find all my cards for the talk. So I changed my message to “The Road to Heaven”. After I finished preaching, a team member found the missing card.
A few people paused to listen to the message, with a couple of them taking John’s Gospel. Team members were also able to have conversations with the listeners afterwards.
A particularly interesting conversation I had was with a Muslim man who is struggling with drunkenness. He told me that he had tried all the religious works that Islam commands, yet he still couldn’t break free. I explained to him that the only way to find freedom and forgiveness was to come to Jesus.
The man spoke about how, in Islam, he is commanded to sacrifice himself to attain Paradise. I countered by pointing out that Jesus sacrificed Himself so we could have Heaven.
Before my eyes, his Islamic foundations began to crumble. He started to question and doubt, then conceded that Islam couldn’t help him.
The man began to curse Muhammad and denounce him. At that point, an Islamic teacher from a group that had set up near us decided to interrupt. He tried to intimidate the man and me. That was enough for the man I was speaking with; he cursed Islam and said it was false. He ended up taking a copy of John’s Gospel and an in-depth booklet that explained the good news. Please pray that the man would come to see the truth of Jesus.
For the evening part of the outreach, I preached on “Warning: Six Deadly Lies”. The Muslims who set up behind us were not too happy with my preaching, so they turned up an amplifier to play the Qur’an in Arabic in an effort to stop the gospel. I decided at this point to engage in a few apologetic arguments, showing why Islam is wrong. A crowd of people gathered, with five people taking copies of the Gospel of John after the message.
As a long week comes to an end, I am thankful for all that the Lord has done. May many come to salvation.
