Day 5 – London Outreach

The rain was falling quite heavily for Day 5 of our London outreach. Due to the weather, most of the team headed off to seek shelter in an art gallery, while five of us sought to engage people with the gospel in the rain.

The first encounter I had that day was with a young man from Lancashire. He is a very committed Mormon and is now one of their doctrine teachers at the missionary training school. We had a wonderful conversation, but it was clear that he trusted strongly in his own morality and religious efforts to save him.

As we spoke, I asked him about different Bible verses. He answered honestly that he wasn’t able to respond to the verses because he wasn’t sure what they meant. Through a series of apologetic arguments, I was able to explain the biblical gospel to him. He wrote down several of the passages of Scripture I mentioned and also took an in-depth gospel tract.

By now the rain had eased, so the team returned and set up for the outreach. It was nearly my turn to preach when a group of young Muslims from the Netherlands asked to debate me. I was more than happy to speak with them.

We had a good back and forth, with one of the young men saying he is being trained to debate Christians. Using the Quran to show the “Islamic Dilemma”, I challenged their position. The young men quickly went from wanting to debate to trying to get away from the conversation. They heard the gospel, with one of them receiving a Gospel of John and another taking a booklet designed for Muslims.

After all of this, it finally came time to preach. Today, I spoke on “The Good Person Test.” A few people gathered, including a young man who thought he was a good person. As we interacted, the crowd grew. At the end, the young man and two others took copies of John’s Gospel. One young lady who listened had recently converted from Roman Catholicism to Islam but was very intrigued by the good news.

In the evening, I was able to speak with a Muslim man from Jordan. We had a very friendly conversation in which he presented his case for Islam, and I presented the case for Christianity. He took some booklets and said how much he enjoyed our discussion.

As the outreach drew to an end, I was the last preacher for the night. My message was on “Death: Is It the End?” There was good engagement, particularly with two young ladies who thought they were good enough for Heaven. One man tried to interrupt the gospel, but I was able to avoid the distraction. Both ladies took copies of John’s Gospel and then spoke with Natalie.

It was a wet and rainy day, but many still got to hear about Jesus. Please pray that the Lord would save many.
